A Chinese power mechanic exhibition opened in Hanoi on Monday, featuring products of the Weichai Power, one of the top-ten Chinese economic groups.

At the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry Do Huu Hao said that the exhibition marks a new development in the Vietnam-China relations, bringing common benefits for the peoples of the two countries.

Vietnam supports all activities to promote trade ties with China and members of the Association of the Southeast Asia Nations, he noted.

During the exhibition, which displays over 20 kinds of power products such as automobile engines, electric generators, and some mechanical products for the ship building sector, a seminar on the application of Weichai''s products in Vietnam''s industrial sector will be held.

At the ceremony, Weichai, which holds some 70 percent of Vietnam''s ship engine market shares, presented engines worth 60, 000 U.S. dollars to Vietnamese industrial and transport universities for teaching, aiming to help them increase their training''s quality.

Chinese ambassador to Vietnam Hu Qianwen said at the ceremony the trade relations between China and Vietnam have dramatically developed in recent years, adding that their trade stood at 7.11 billion dollars in the first nine months of this year, a rise of 19.2 percent over the same period last year.

Chinese-backed investment in Vietnam reached 106 million dollars in 2005, up 32.2 percent over 2004, he noted. -China Daily
